The sixth annual Jim Mora Celebrity Golf Classic, presented by Key Bank to raise funds for children at risk and in need, is June 25 at The Golf Club at Newcastle, 15500 Six Penny Lane. The event features 34 teams of four paired with a celebrity. There will be course contests, car giveaways and a BackSwing Bash Happy Hour and Dinner Auction. Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 9-15) gets off to a blazing start Oct. 8 with dramatic demonstrations at Bellevue fire stations, including Station 9, 12412 Newcastle Way. Firefighters and fire prevention officers will stop by each station and provide a real stovetop fire display and fire extinguisher demonstrations that both children and adults can also handle. Each station will have displays with several sets of real bunker gear to try on. The following specific events also take place:
The state fire marshal’s office sprinkler trailer will be at Station 8, 5701 Lakemont Blvd. S.E., conducting several live fire displays.

It’s Passport Day from noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 10. The city of Newcastle will be accepting passport applications at Lake Boren Park by appointment only. Call 649-4444.
The third annual Newcastle 5K is at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 10 at Lake Boren Park. Entry is $25 per individual and $20 for groups of four or more or $30/$25 the day of the race. Children and pets are welcome. Go to www.newcastle5k.com.
