During the meeting’s second hour, the Newcastle City Council fielded audience questions, with a sizable group of neighbors from in and around Southeast 75th Street using the time to express concerns about speeding on the street. Read more

More than 100 attend annual town hall meeting

About 115 residents armed with electronic voting clickers responded to real-time poll questions at the annual town hall meeting held Oct. 29 at The Golf Club at Newcastle.

City Manager Rob Wyman presented information about the 2013 preliminary budget and future development in the city, while Newcastle Police Chief Melinda Irvine offered information on community safety, crime prevention and Newcastle police staffing levels.

With the electronic voting devices, residents had the opportunity to offer their feedback about the city’s performance. Read more

Reminder: Annual town hall meeting is Oct. 29

The city of Newcastle will host its annual town hall meeting from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 29 at The Golf Club at Newcastle.

The meeting will include a question and answer session using electronic voting devices.

Residents will be able to provide feedback to city staff and City Council members about issues facing the city for the next year, including the city’s budget.

Other topics of discussion will include the city’s financial future, an overview of current and future development in the city and information about community safety, crime prevention and policing.

The event is free and open to the public. Complimentary non-alcoholic refreshments and snacks are provided, and no-host beverages are also available.

41st District legislators to hold town hall at Hazelwood Elementary School on Saturday

Lawmakers from the 41st Legislative District, which includes Newcastle, will host a town hall meeting at Hazelwood Elementary School, 7100 116th Ave. S.E. in Newcastle, from 10-11:30 a.m. March 12.

Democrat Reps. Marcie Maxwell and Judy Clibborn will join Republican Sen. Steve Litzow to give an update on the 2011 legislative agenda and take questions from attendees. The event is free and open to the public.

The Golf Club hosts town hall Thursday

The Golf Club at Newcastle, 15500 Six Penny Lane, will host the city’s annual town hall meeting from 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Saint Andrews Ballroom. It will be free to attend.

Citizens are invited to attend and discuss city issues, as the town hall will include an open-microphone question and answer period as well as electronic polling.

City Council spends retreat working on 2011 budget

Public invited to town hall Oct. 28

City officials began work on the 2011 budget in September, beginning with a seven-hour budget retreat Sept. 7.

The City Council met with City Manager Rob Wyman and Finance Director Christine Olson to set priorities and give direction to members of city staff for the budgeting process.

The budget process

The first copy of the preliminary budget will be distributed to the council at the Oct. 19 meeting. In accordance with budgeting policies adopted by the council earlier this year, city staff will not be able to present a budget containing a deficit. The first public hearing regarding the budget will also be held Oct. 19.

Senator hosts town halls May 8, includes stop in Newcastle

State Sen. Randy Gordon will host three town halls May 8 to meet with 41st Legislative District constituents. The district includes Talus and southwest Issaquah.

The opening town hall will be from 10-11:15 a.m. at Community Center at Mercer View, 8236 S.E. 24th St., Mercer Island. The next forum will be from noon – 1:15 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Bellevue City Hall, 450 110 Ave. N.E. Gordon will conclude the series at Hazelwood Elementary School, 7100 116th Ave. S.E., Newcastle, where the town hall runs from 2-3:15 p.m.
