A Washington State Patrol trooper looks over a yellow Ducati 749 motorcycle that flew off the eastbound I-90 overpass exit ramp to Highlands Drive, and landed down an embankment off the right shoulder of eastbound Interstate 90.

A motorcyclist who suffered severe injuries Aug. 6, after vaulting over the Interstate 90 Issaquah Highlands exit overpass into the east fork of Issaquah Creek below has been identified as 22-year-old Jeffrey Kimmel, of Newcastle.

Two motorcyclists were eluding a state trooper when they exited eastbound I-90 onto the Highlands Drive Northeast exit, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Kimmel, riding a yellow Ducati 749, failed to negotiate the ramp’s severe turn, launching both himself and his motorcycle off the overpass.

“Motorcycle was eluding trooper when it exited to Highlands Dr NE from EB I-90,” Trooper Karim Boukabou tweeted Aug. 6. “Rider of motorcycle continued to flee after trooper turned emergency lights off and stopped pursuing on exit ramp.”

Kimmel missed the interstate over the 68-foot drop and fell down the embankment.

Eastside Fire & Rescue’s Twitter account said Aug. 6 the rider had multiple injuries and was taken to Harborview Medical Center.

Boukabou also tweeted Aug. 6 that one of the motorcycles, a blue one, had not been caught. Anyone with information should call the Washington State Patrol at 401-7788.
