The Newcastle City Council is in for what appears to be a busy night as it meets July 1 for its first meeting of the month.
The evening begins with a citizen presentation about Energize Eastside. The Olympus Homeowners Association will offer its thoughts on the Puget Sound Energy project, in response to the region’s growing power needs, slated to bring new, higher capacity electric transmission lines to the Eastside.
The council will hold a total of five public hearings on the night, attached to five corresponding ordinances.
One of the more noteworthy ordinances involves consideration of a moratorium on marijuana business activity. At the city’s town hall, a majority of residents polled said they are not in favor of marijuana processing, production or retail establishments in Newcastle.
Other public hearings are attached to the city’s update of its impact fees, amendments to the Capital Facilities Plan and an amendment of zoning code standards for on-site recreation areas.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Newcastle City Hall. View the full agenda online here.
