Mailbox damage

An unknown suspect tore a mailbox from its post and pried open the door in the 8000 block of 116th Avenue Southeast on May 2. It is unknown if there was any mail stolen.

Seedless and sweet

A watermelon was among the items taken from a car parked in the 7400 block of Newcastle Golf Club Road between May 3 and 4. An unknown suspect also caused $1,500 in damage to the car’s rear passenger window and door.

Double jeopardy

A resident reported the theft of his 1997 Honda Accord from the 7900 block of 110th Avenue Southeast on May 6. It is the second time in less than a year that the vehicle was stolen. It was eventually recovered in Kent.

Elementary memories

A mother and daughter set off an alarm at the Renton Academy, 6928 116th Ave. S.E., May 11, when they stuck their upper bodies through an open window. The mother stated that she had gone to the old elementary school, and wanted to show it to her daughter.

Facebook finding

Newcastle Police discovered a black pistol on the sidewalk in the 8400 block of Coal Creek Parkway Southeast on May 12, thanks to an observant resident who posted about it on the city’s Facebook page. The pistol was in two pieces and was probably thrown from a vehicle.

Apple fan

A man returned to his vehicle parked in the 14400 block of Southeast 78th Way after four hours and found that his MacBook Pro and iPad were gone May 14.

Dog attack

A resident’s pit bull escaped a fenced yard and attacked a neighbor’s toy fox terrier in the 12900 block of Southeast 95th Way on May 14. The terrier was moving slowly and needed a vet, the owner said. The pit bull’s owner offered to assist and pay for the dog’s medical treatment.

McDonald’s commotion

Police responded to a report of vandalism May 21, after a woman called from the Newcastle McDonald’s, 13049 Newcastle Way, saying that a woman threw a can of soda at her car, striking the bumper and leaving a scratch. It came after the suspect chastised the woman inside the restaurant for splitting a soft drink between her kids. The suspect became angered when the victim told her to mind her own business. The victim said she believed the suspect was mentally unstable.
