Hazen High School wrestling team members (from left) coach Rory Magana, Tyson Mowery, Derek Nichols, Zach Moore, Malik Haythorne, Jairo Barahona and coach Aaron Martin, are all smiles after a strong showing at the regional competition at Skyline High School.

As the winter sports season comes to a close, wrestlers from Liberty and Hazen high schools aren’t ready to hang up their singlets just yet.

They have a date at the Tacoma Dome, where they will compete at the state tournament Feb. 21-22.

Hazen will send six athletes to compete among the state’s best at the 26th edition of the Mat Classic. Liberty will send five.

Tyson Mowrey, Derek Nichols, Zach Moore, Malik Haythorne, Jairo Barahona and Raven Svenson will all represent the Highlanders in Tacoma.

Joanna Moreira, Kyle Armstrong, Conner Small, Romney Noel and Quinn Magendanz will represent the Patriots.

The athletes qualified after top performances at the regional competition last week.
