Both the Hazen and Liberty girls soccer teams play their first games in the 2013 state tournament tonight.

Hazen will host Seattle Prep at 7 p.m. at Renton Memorial Stadium. It’s the Highlanders’ first time in the state competition since 1993.

If Hazen wins, they will play Bainbridge, which defeated Meadowdale, 3-0, Nov. 12.

Liberty will travel to face defending state champion Columbia River at 5:30 p.m. The Patriots will try to become the first team in the state this year to score a goal on the Chieftains.

The Patriots are no strangers to state competition. Last year they took fourth place, and the year before, finished second. Liberty would face Bishop Blanchet if they are able to get past Columbia River.

Coaches like to preach one game at a time, but if both Liberty and Hazen win their next two games, the two would face each other Nov. 22 at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup.
