B & E Meats & Seafood opened its doors to the community Sept. 20, but the occasion will be officially marked with a weekend-long celebration beginning with an Oct. 4 ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The family-owned business comes to Newcastle after more than 50 years in operation. There are also locations in Burien, Des Moines and Federal Way.
The celebration kicks off with the Oct. 4 ceremony where local dignitaries, including Mayor Rich Crispo, are expected to formally welcome the store to the community at noon.
The business will open in the space formerly occupied by Newcastle City Hall at 13020 Newcastle Way.
“The reputation of the 50-year old family business preceded itself,” City Manager Rob Wyman said in a statement. “We know how fortunate we are to have B & E join our community.”
Among the festivities planned for the weekend celebration is an outdoor barbecue.
“We will be barbecuing our famous Kalbi Marinated Beef, our Teriyaki Beef Tri-tip and much more all weekend-long,” owner Jeff Green said in a statement.
The market will also feature its marinated products at special sale prices during the grand opening.
“Plan on sampling many of our products – including our well-known Smoked Salmon Candy,” Green said.
Green said the company decided on Newcastle for its fourth location, thanks to the city’s family atmosphere.
“We looked all over the Northwest and we fell in love with Newcastle because it is so much about family and community,” he said. “We found it a place where people are interested in raising their kids and where community has always been a formula for a success.”
The Newcastle store is open Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
