The 2014 budget process is set to begin in earnest at the Newcastle City Council’s Oct. 1 meeting.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. for a study session, where members will discuss 2014 budget priorities and needs with department directors. Study sessions are open to the public. That discussion will continue into the 7 p.m. regular meeting.

Finance Director Christine Olson will also present an updated five-year revenue forecast.

Council members will review an ordinance amending the 2013 budget, increasing expenditure appropriations for the Equipment Rental Fund and the city’s pavement management program. Since this is an ordinance, a public comment period is provided.
