Hazen High School receives two Washington Achievement Awards

The State Board of Education and the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction awarded two Washington Achievement Awards to Hazen High School: One for its overall excellence, and one for being a top performer in the field of mathematics.

This is the fourth year in a row that Hazen High School has received a Washington Achievement Award.

A total of 381 state schools received Washington Achievement Awards. The award-winning schools will be honored during an award ceremony on April 30 at Kentwood High School in Covington.

Tolling, financial policies on council’s April 2 agenda

NEW — 3:20 p.m. April 2, 2013

The Newcastle City Council will have a discussion about the proposed tolling of the Interstate 90 bridge at its April 2 meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers in City Hall.

The council will also review a Finance Committee recommendation to make changes to the council’s financial policies. The amendment would change the budget practices and presentation materials leading up to the preliminary budget document and would have no immediate fiscal impact.
