HomeStreet Bank holds food drive

HomeStreet Bank will join 90 other banks in Western Washington to collect nonperishable food and cash donations for Northwest Harvest between March 18 and April 5.

The effort is part of the Bankers Care Spring 2013 Food Drive. The Bankers Care program, sponsored by the Washington Bankers Association, focuses on the many ways bankers can help meet the vital needs of people across the state.

Contributions collected at each neighborhood branch will directly support that community.

HomeStreet customers and members of each local community are encouraged to participate. Cash donations are also accepted and can be made at branches or directly online at www.bankersinwacare.com.

The Newcastle branch is located at 6949 Coal Creek Parkway S.E.

Police looking for suspect in Subway robbery

NEW — 12:15 p.m. March 20, 2013

The Newcastle Subway sandwich store was robbed at 7:55 a.m. March 20, according to a statement from Newcastle Police Chief Melinda Irvine.

The suspect, who is still at large, is described as a black male in his 40s standing about 5 feet, 1 inch tall, with short, almost balding hair.

The man wore a multi-colored sweater and his face was covered when he entered the business.

Residents who may have seen the man in the Newcastle area on the morning of March 20 are encouraged to call the Newcastle Police at 649-4444, or the nonemergency dispatch number, 206-296-3311.
