It’s been several years in the making, but the time has finally arrived. The Newcastle Library will open its doors to the community the morning of Dec. 8.

The momentous occasion will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony, slated to start at 9:30 a.m.

King County Library System Director Bill Ptacek, Mayor Rich Crispo and Julia Hunter, president of the Friends of the Newcastle Library, are among those scheduled to speak at the ceremony.

Visitors will be able to tour the library and enjoy refreshments provided by the Friends of the Newcastle Library.

At 10 a.m., Parnassus Project will perform chamber music inside the library, courtesy of King FM 98.1.

Check back here next week, where we will post a photo gallery from the event and follow us on twitter at where we will live tweet pictures of the ceremony and the new library.
