The city of Newcastle is seeking suggestions from the public to name the small park at the intersection of 113th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 80th Street near Hazelwood Gardens.

Submit your ideas by mailing in an entry form or sending an email to michaelh@ci.newcastle.wa.us by 5 p.m. March 23. The city’s Parks Commissioners and the City Council will select the winning name.

Park amenities include several picnic tables, benches and a gravel pathway.

Naming of park spaces should be based upon the site’s relationship to any of the following criteria:

  • Neighborhood, geographic or common usage identification
  • Natural or geological features
  • An historic feature, place, event or other instance of historical or cultural significance
  • An individual (living or deceased) who has made a significant land and/or monetary contribution to the park system or who has had the contribution made “in memoriam,” and when the name has been stipulated as a condition of the donation
  •  An individual who has contributed outstanding civic service to the city and who has been deceased for a period of at least one year
