Newcastle residents will have the opportunity to dispose of recyclable material at a city-sponsored collection event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 10 at Renton Academy located at 6928 116th Ave. S.E. in Newcastle.

Residents may bring in tires, motor oil, filters and antifreeze, lead acid and alkaline batteries, household goods and clothing, porcelain toilets and sinks, propane tanks, cardboard, appliances and scrap metal, refrigerators and freezers, electronic equipment and mattresses.

There is a $10 charge for each toilet or sink donated, $5 will be charged for each water heater that still has insulation coating and $25 will be charged for each refrigerator or freezer.

Only cash is accepted at the event.

Certain types of household and hazardous wastes, such as house paint, pesticides, herbicides, cleaning products and fluorescent lights, will not be accepted.

Television sets, computers, DVD and VCR players as well as laptops are not accepted at this event, but are collected free of charge through the E-Cycle Washington program.

The Washington Department of Ecology, the local hazardous waste management program in King County and the King County Solid Waste Division is funding the event.
