The snow-laden forecast prompted King County Metro Transit and Sound Transit to roll out altered schedules and routes Wednesday due to winter weather.

Sound Transit is remaining on snow alert throughout the workweek. Service could be affected due to weather and road conditions, so riders should be prepared for service delays or disruptions. Some buses have also been equipped with chains and must travel at slower speeds.

Metro Transit is keeping buses on snow routing until future notice. The agency is also planning on canceling up to 30 bus routes Wednesday morning due to the snowstorm’s predicted severity.

Both agencies asked riders to check the respective websites for rider alerts and status updates.

Sound Transit plans to continue updates as needed until travel conditions improve. However the agency cannot send alerts about delays or service disruptions on individual trips or at specific bus stops.

Metro Transit recommended for riders to sign up for Transit Alerts to receive notification of route cancellations. Riders should also check the service status before traveling on Wednesday. If there is major snowfall, expect bus service to be significantly disrupted and delayed. Officials said people should avoid traveling if at all possible.

Information about Wednesday route cancellations is expected to be added to Metro Transit’s snow website after midnight. But, service on affected routes could be restored depending on overnight weather forecasts and actual travel conditions Wednesday. Riders should check the snow website for the most current status of Metro Transit service.

Transit riders should also prepare for the conditions and wait for buses at posted bus stops on flat portions of cleared arterials or at major transfer points, such as transit center lots.
