NEW — 3:45 p.m. Dec. 5, 2011

Around 2:30 a.m. Dec. 2, several vehicles were broken into in the Brewer (9200 block of 118th Place S.E.) and Windtree (9300 block of 120th Ave. S.E.) neighborhoods in Newcastle.

No loss has been discovered related to the break-ins.

According to a statement from Newcastle Police Chief Melinda Irvine, witnesses saw two white males who were walking from car to car. The suspects are believed to be in their 50s, and the men reportedly left in a light blue Ford Ranger two-door pick-up truck.

If your vehicle was broken into overnight from Dec. 1 through Dec. 2 and you have not filed a police report, call 206-296-3311 to report a crime.  If you saw anything suspicious overnight or think you may know who the suspects are, contact the Newcastle Police Department at 649-4444.

To help prevent car break-ins:

  •     Close all windows and lock your car. Do not leave keys in the vehicle.
  •     Remove all loose items from the vehicle, especially items of value such as laptop computers, GPS units, wallets and purses. Most reports the police department takes are for these items that were left in plain view.
  •     Park your car in a garage if possible, or park in a well-lit area.

If you observe suspicious activity, call 911 to have an officer respond.
