Instructor Frances Lucero with the King County Noxious Weed Program will be on hand at a free workshop that aims to educate residents on how invasive knotweed can be controlled and eradicated by use of herbicide injections.

The workshop, which is organized by the Newcastle Weed Warriors, the city of Newcastle and the KCNWP, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 17 at Lake Boren Park.

Following the sign-in and orientation to the workshop, the volunteers will walk to the knotweed stand located south of Lake Boren Park for instruction and practice using the injectors.

Participants are asked to wear sturdy shoes and a long-sleeved shirt.

Students can earn community service hours at the workshop.
