Newcastle Police are searching for two men who burglarized a house near Southeast 81st Court and 126th Place Southeast just before noon June 2. A neighbor called 911 after seeing two men enter the back yard of the house, Police Chief Melinda Irvine said.

After entering through the back door, the men discovered somebody was home and fled on foot. There was no confrontation between the men and the homeowner, Irvine said.

Police chased the men on foot as the men scaled back fences through the neighborhood, but police were unable to apprehend the suspects. A police helicopter also responded to the area.

Irvine said one man was wearing all black and the other was wearing a white T-shirt and black jeans, although witnesses gave varying descriptions of the men. Neither man had anything his hands when he left the house.

Police have not created sketches of the men, but Irvine said a witness gave information about their car.

The incident comes in the wake of string of home burglaries that took place across the city in May. Irvine said there are five home “burglaries of interest” that could be linked to the men.

She said residents should call 911 if they see any suspicious activities.
