Newcastle Elementary School and Maywood Middle School are seeking members for their respective site councils for the 2011-2012 school year.

Site councils — which consist of parents, staff members and occasionally students —advise school principals on how to advance student learning. The councils focus on using “strong shared planning, communications and problem-solving,” according to the Issaquah School District’s website.

Newcastle’s Site Council needs a primary parent representative to represent the needs of kindergarteners, first-graders and second-graders. Newcastle’s council meets from 8-9 a.m. the first Monday of each month in the school’s conference room. Find more information in the school’s main office or on the school’s website here.

Applications for Newcastle’s council are due May 27.

Maywood’s Site Council is seeking four parents to represent the neighborhoods served by Maple Hills, Briarwood and Newcastle elementary schools. The school’s council meets after school on Tuesdays four times during year, starting in October. The positions have two-year terms.

Applications are due May 16. Call or email Jean Schreiner, the principal’s secretary, at 837-6904 or email for more information about Maywood’s council.
