Newport Hills to host holiday bazaar Saturday

The nearby Bellevue neighborhood of Newport Hills will host its holiday bazaar from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Dec. 18 at the site of the former Cy’s Hallmark and Newport Hills shopping center, 5620 119th Ave. S.E.
The event will feature merchants selling baked goods, jewelry, crafts, ornaments and other items.
Numerous Newcastle businesses and organizations will attend or contribute to the bazaar, including the Newcastle Weed Warriors, Newcastle Fruit & Produce and the Coal Creek Safeway.

Mail theft
A woman reported that mail had been stolen from her mailbox, in the 6800 block of Lake Washington Boulevard Southeast at about noon Oct. 30.
Tractor break-in
A man reported that his 2000 FRHT Tractor was broken into at Walkers Run Condominiums, 7453 Newcastle Golf Club Road, between 3 and 6 p.m. Nov. 18. He reported that the wing window of the tractor had been smashed, causing $300 in damage. He also reported that a cell phone worth $300 and a GPS worth $100 were stolen.
City encourages residents, business owners to report storm damage

City officials are encouraging residents and businesses to report damage from the recent wind and rain to King County.
To report damage, call the King County Office of Emergency Management at 206-296-3830 between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday-Friday.
If you call to report damage, do so by Dec. 24 and ask to submit information to Individual Assistance, city officials said in a press release.
Newcastle Golf Club Road now open

Newcastle Golf Club Road — which closed Monday between 136th Avenue Southeast and 155th Avenue Southeast due to a landslide that extended to the road — opened to traffic in both directions Wednesday evening.
The road had been closed because a gas line runs through the area, and city maintenance workers, Puget Sound Energy workers and construction contractors dumped about 1,000 tons of rocks on the slope Tuesday to stabilize the hillside. Engineers cleared the road prior to its reopening.
Hazelwood Elementary students to perform in ‘The Nutcracker’

Hazelwood Elementary School students Madison Huizinga, Emma Mason, Keila Mohan, Sadie Olsen Maya Paletta and Samantha Yee will perform in Eastside Dance Theater’s version of “The Nutcracker” Dec. 18 and 19 at 1:30 and 6 p.m. at Carlson Theater at Bellevue College.
