Hazen, Liberty swimmers take to state meet Nov. 13

Swimmers from Hazen and Liberty high schools competed at the state meet at the King County Aquatic Center Nov. 13, earning their schools 10th- and 15th-place finishes, respectively.

Hazen’s Lauren Kaufman came out strong, taking first in state in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23 seconds and 31 hundredths of a second, and first in 100 freestyle with a time of 51.26. Both performances are considered All-America times.

In the 400 relay final, Hazen finished third with its team of Kaela Nurmi, Amy LeBar, Kayla DiMicco and Kaufman in a time of 3:39.93.

In the 200 freestyle, Liberty’s Nicole Lecoq took third with a time of 1:56.58 and LeBar took 23rd with a time of 2:07.55. In the 200 individual medley, Liberty’s Elise Tinseth took seventh with a time of 2:12.31 and Nurmi took 15th with a time of 2:21.96.

Tinseth finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.16.

Hazen’s Sara McCormick took eighth in diving with a score of 302.30.

Hazen finished eighth in the 200 medley relay B finals with its team of Nurmi, Leah Maier, DiMicco and Kaufman, with a time of 1:56.77. Liberty finished 13th in the B final with its team of Tinseth, Ashley Vigen, Caitlin Duffner and Lecoq, with a time of 1:59.23.

In the 100 medley B final, Lecoq took 10th with a time of 54.13, and in the 100 backstroke B final, Nurmi took 16th with a time of 1:04.68.
