A 23-year-old Newcastle man was arrested for taking part in a Washington State Lottery scam in Everett Oct. 6.

The man, a clerk at a convenience store, was arrested during a sting operation when he attempted to retrieve the winnings from a customer’s lottery ticket.

The customer who brought the winning ticket to the store was a Washington Lottery investigator, and he attempted to cash in a ticket worth $1,000. The clerk and the store’s manager told the man his ticket was only worth $2, and they only awarded him that amount, police said.

Later that day, the clerk and the manager attempted to retrieve the $1,000 reward, but were arrested.
