Washington Youth Soccer recently awarded 2010 Hazen High School graduate Britney Boler with a $5,000 scholarship.

The organization gave scholarships to 14 college-bound soccer players from across the state, and each received a $1,000 scholarship, except for Boler, as she was selected to receive the larger scholarship.

Boler, a forward and midfielder, now plays for the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff.

Hazen girls soccer coach Ken Mathews said Boler deserved the award for her contributions as a player and mentor, coaching a youth team.

“They would come out and practice a couple of nights a week right after our team,” Mathews said. “Britney is one of those special people with a passion for our game, and a desire to pass that on both on and off the field.”
