The city is searching for a landscape architect to design its new playground at Lake Boren Park.

In June, Park Commission Vice Chair Koleen Morris brought photos of different styles of playgrounds to Newcastle Elementary School to get feedback on what kinds of play equipment children would prefer.

The new playground at Lake Boren Park will be similar in style to these playgrounds at Kasch Park in Everett. By Landscape Structures

Of the three options she presented, the children overwhelming selected one. Morris returned to the Parks Commission with this information, and the commission selected the style the children preferred.

City staff took this direction and is now moving forward with hope of installing the new play equipment before Newcastle Days on Sept. 11. The existing play structure will not be removed until the new structure is ready for installation.

“What we don’t want to do is rip it out and not have a playground there for Newcastle Days,” interim City Manager Rob Wyman said.

He said the city is now working to find a landscape architect to build the structure, and the details of the playground will not be determined until the city selects a firm.

“Once we get the designer on board, that’s when it all comes together,” he said.

“City seeks designer for new playground at Lake Boren Park” as of 8/5/2010 seems to be the latest available article on the subject. Would you please shed more light for all of the newcastle residents on the current state of this project? What is the ETA for playground to be ready for use? Thanks in advance.
