Drivers need to be more aware of pedestrians near onramp

This is an open letter to the speeding drivers coming down the hill to enter Interstate 405 northbound from Bellevue and Newcastle. Please respect pedestrians crossing this entrance ramp trying to catch a bus or getting to the park & ride lot. Must we take our lives in our or your hands every day?

Open dog park in Lake Boren would ruin quaint, peaceful setting

Why would the city even think about putting an open area dog park in at Lake Boren? That would ruin the quaintness and peacefulness of the park.

I have a huge 100-pound Labrador and I live right behind the park. Although my dog would love the dog park, I do not want to see or hear a bunch of dogs going wild!

The city would be best off letting dogs be off leash as long as they can be recalled (meaning that they come when called). The local people have very well self managed themselves and their dogs — I have seen many owners on walks with their dogs right at their sides without needing to be leashed.

I think it’s crazy to change the rules now to start fining owners if their dogs aren’t leashed. Everything in this city is changing toward making it part of a crazy, big-thinking city. Yuk.

Pat Detmer’s columns are a gem

Please keep the humorous articles from Pet Detmer (Laughing all the way) coming. Her last article “Lessons of the 20-year garden,” similar to what many Newcastle residents face, was a gem.

Those evergreens she mentions that “dehair” us and “scrape off our top epidermal layer” are all too familiar. Take good care of her or she may end up being stolen by Bellevue or Renton.
