Events

Town Hall meeting with State Sen. Randy Gordon is from 2-3:15 p.m. May 8 at Hazelwood Elementary School, 7100 116th Ave. S.E.

The King County Solid Waste Division will host a public meeting to kick off the public process for the replacement of the Factoria Transfer Station in its existing location. The meeting is from 6-8:30 p.m. May 12 at East Shore Unitarian Church, 12700 S.E. 32nd St., Bellevue.

The Newcastle Chamber of Commerce lunch meeting is from 11 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. May 12 at Tapatio’s, 6920 Coal Creek Parkway S.E. Guest speakers are Rob Wyman, interim city manager, and Sandi Tampa, of Windermere Real Estate. Cost of $20 at the door includes program, lunch, tax and gratuity. R.S.V.P. to info@newcastlecc.com.

The NoHomelessKids Luncheon fundraiser to benefit Vision House, a transitional housing facility in Renton for homeless children and their mothers, is from noon – 1 p.m. May 13 at the Bellevue Hilton, 300 112th Ave., S.E. Village Theatre KIDSTAGE is now taking sign-ups for its summer camp line-up of theater classes for students of all ages. In Issaquah, KIDSTAGE has classes that begin in June, July and August. MOMS Club of Renton meets for play dates at parks and other locations. New activities are planned daily. This nonprofit, nonreligious organization provides daytime support for moms and their families. Call 260-3079.

Library events

The Newport Way Library, 14250 S.E. Newport Way, Bellevue, is closed for expansion and will remain closed for eight months to a year. A temporary location is being considered. Health

Angel Care Breast Cancer Foundation-trained survivors offer free emotional support to the newly diagnosed, enhancing emotional recovery while going through treatments. Go to www.angelcarefoundation.org.

Volunteers

Group Health: Volunteers are needed to answer phone calls to the Group Health Resource Line, which provides members with information on a variety of health issues. While working at the resource line, volunteers learn about health education and have access to the most up-to-date health information, classes, lectures and support groups offered through Group Health, caregiver resources and information about other community health services. Call 206-326-2800.

Group Health II: Volunteer drivers are needed for the Group Health Transportation Assistance Program to transport frail, elderly members to and from medical appointments in King County. Volunteers use their personal cars, are reimbursed for mileage and determine their own schedules — including when, where and how often they will drive. Eastside Bluebills, a Boeing retiree volunteer organization that provides opportunities to help others in need and assist charitable and nonprofit organizations, meets from 10 a.m. – noon the third Wednesday at the Bellevue Regional Library. Call 235-3847.

King County Library System’s Words on Wheels program needs volunteers to select and deliver library materials to homebound patrons. Training is provided. A one-year commitment is required. Volunteers must be at least 18, have their own transportation and be able to pass a Washington State Patrol background check. Call 369-3235.

Places to go

Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park, on Lakemont Boulevard Southeast, is a 3,000-acre park with more than 30 miles of trails and the site of the 1880s coalmines. Go to www.metrokc.gov/parks.
