The Liberty seventh-grade boys select basketball team won the Silver Division Seventh Grade Playoff Championship March 7 with a 48-44 win against Woodinville.

The team, which plays in the Eastside Traveling League, overcame an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to secure the win.“It was a good way for our season to end,” coach Tom Koehler said.

The Eastside Traveling League, which consists of 16 teams, mirrors the high school KingCo basketball divisions. In its regular season, which began last October, the Liberty team finished 3-13.

In the postseason, the top eight teams of the league compete in the gold division playoffs and the bottom eight teams compete in the silver division playoffs.

Liberty was seeded fifth in the silver division playoffs, but it defeated Sammamish’s and Eastlake’s select teams to advance to the finals.

“It kind of showed the improvement that the players have made from the beginning of the season,” Koehler said. “It kind of all came together in that last weekend.”

The select squad is made up of 12 Maywood Middle School students.
