Mayor John Dulcich created two new committees for the city – the Library Development Committee and the Community, Communications and Outreach Committee.

The library committee, to be temporary and similar to the YMCA Committee, was created to facilitate and ensure groundbreaking of Newcastle library.

Dulcich said the committee would show the importance of building a library to city staff members and King County Library System officials.

Dulcich, Deputy Mayor Steve Buri and Councilwoman Lisa Jensen will be the committee.

“I think the role of the committee is to act as a liaison between the staff and the library,” Buri said.

He said the committee would ensure “there are no additional hurdles and that the library is realized as soon as possible.”

The time and location of the committee’s first meeting has not yet been determined, but the committee’s meetings will be open to the public.

The Community, Communications and Outreach Committee is to explore the effectiveness of different forms of communications between city officials and residents.

Dulcich said the scope of the committee would be broad, and it would look for ways city officials can improve communications with residents.

Jensen, Councilman Rich Crispo and Councilwoman Carol Simpson will be that committee.

“I think it’s great, because the city does need to have better outreach to draw more info and feedback from residents, businesses and constituents,” Simpson said.

The committee’s first meeting was Feb. 1; its next meeting, March 1, is open to the public.

Dulcich also named members of the council to the city’s existing and regional committees.

Dulcich, Crispo and Councilman Bill Erxleben will serve on the Finance Committee. Jensen, Simpson and Crispo will serve on the city’s Salary and Benefits Committee.

The Finance Committee held its first meeting Feb. 4, but a meeting time for the Salary and Benefits Committee has not yet been set.

Simpson will serve on the Metropolitan Solid Waste Advisory Committee, while Dulcich, Buri and Councilman Sonny Putter will serve on the Eastside Transportation Committee. Furthermore, Putter will serve on the Suburban Cities Public Issues Committee.

Finally, Buri will act as a member of the Jail Advisory Group.
