Maywood Middle School is gearing up for its remodel and expansion, although the project is still in the design phase.

Six new classrooms will be added to the building, as well as an auxiliary gym, a workroom, storage space and a student store. A music room, four classrooms, the library, the cafeteria, the gymnasium and the commons will be remodeled.

In December, a portable office was hauled into the school’s front yard, where members of the school’s administration will work during the remodel of the office and commons.

An additional portable was moved to the back of the school, and it will be used as a construction office and storage space.

Sara Niegowski, Issaquah School District communications director, said the project would undergo the permit process in the spring and prep work during the summer. She said the project would break ground around October.

District officials expect the project to be finished in September 2011.
