New City Councilman John Dulcich was unanimously elected at the Jan. 5 City Council meeting as the next mayor of Newcastle.

Councilman Steve Buri was unanimously elected to become deputy mayor for the city.

The elections of the mayor and deputy mayor took place immediately after new councilmen Rich Crispo, Bill Erxleben and Dulcich were sworn into office.

“I know there’s a lot of heavy lifting to do,” Dulcich said, although he expressed his excitement to begin working.

“This city is a great city with a great future,” he said.

Dulcich was previously mayor of the city from 2002-2005.

After the City Council appointed the new mayor and deputy mayor, members began working on their first item of business for the year: the 2010 legislative calendar. However, talks were mostly postponed to a special meeting Dulcich called for Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers.
