Candidates Rich Crispo and Karin Blakely will vie for Newcastle City Council Position 5 after edging out a third candidate in the Aug. 18 primary election.

Crispo was the top vote getter in the race with 802 votes, or 48.52 percent. Blakely trailed with 481 votes, or 29.10 percent. Candidate Larry Betsch garnered 366 votes — not enough to survive the primary.

Deputy Mayor Dan Hubbell holds the Position 5 seat; he is not seeking another term.

King County Elections officials recorded 1,718 ballots for the City Council race by Aug. 31. The number represents about 29 percent of Newcastle voters.

In the primary, voters also denied Newcastle resident Mark Greene a chance for County Council District 9 seat.

Greene came in third against incumbent Councilman Reagan Dunn and challenger Beverly Harison Tonda, a Maple Valley corporate trainer. Dunn captured 72.85 percent of the vote and Tonda collected 19.58 percent.

Voters will decide the Position 5 and District 9 races Nov. 3.
