CNN and Money Magazine released their 2009 list of the top-100 small towns in which to live in the nation, and Newcastle came in at number 17.

The annual list takes school quality, home price, number of job opportunities, crime rate and other factors into consideration to determine what cities make the cut.

Newcastle’s description on the list recognizes the Newcastle Golf Club, as well as the city’s proximity to the facilities of Boeing and Microsoft as positive aspects of the town.

“We’re fortunate to live in a vibrant community that puts residents in the middle of the action,” Mayor Ben Varon said in a press release. “Newcastle residents take great pride in our parks, schools and local businesses.”

The list, which includes cities with populations between 8,500 and 50,000, includes four other Washington cities as well: Mukilteo, Sammamish, Richland and Silverdale, at the No. 10, 12, 51 and 92 spots, respectively.

Yeah, so happy and glad to see the recognition! I am tired of dealing with folks accusing Newcastle as a “wanna be city”. Now I can direct the critics to the study by CNN and Money Magazine!
