After receiving several complaints in the past few months about Waste Management, city officials are mailing a survey to residents to evaluate whether services need to be updated.

The city is legally bound to contract with Waste Management for the next seven years, but city officials are looking into revising the existing relationship, said Doug Alder, city spokesman.

“What we’re trying to find out is what people would like to see – whether they’d like to see their waste and recycled bundled or how frequently they’d like to see their trash picked up,” Alder said. “This basically starts the clock to see what improvements can be made to waste and recycling service in the city.”

Missed pickup dates and poor customer service over the phone were among complaints cited by Newcastle residents, Alder said.

The survey includes seven questions and should be mailed out in the first few weeks of February.
